Undoubtedly it’s the biggest night of Hollywood, accentuated with greatest fashion show on the earth. While the world was waiting curiously for the announcement to occur; Fashionlady was scrutinizing every guest arriving at the red carpet.

Until some of the expected true fashion icons including Charlize Theron, Cate Blanchett and Angelina Jolie graced the red carpet last night, the best dressed woman of the night was surprisingly the new bee Lupita Nyong’o. The 12 Years a Slave actress, who walked out later that night with her golden statue for the best supporting actress role was under the spotlight for her incredible fashion statement she served at the Golden Globes.

I am quite thrilled and excited at the same time to list out the best dressed ladies at the Oscars 2014 red carpet; as the list includes much more names than the worst dressed listing. And I could only gather the best dressed and the passable winners except for Pharell who just looked pathetic. As I am in no mood to touch the men’s section so let’s just ignore the Pharell part for now.

Perhaps, elegance is the perfect word to describe many of the red carpet outfit choices of this year including those of Charlize Theron (form-fitting black Dior gown with a sheer and banded train), Cate Blanchett (nude Giorgio Armani with beading and pailettes), Lupita Nyong’o (custom pleated baby blue Prada gown), Jessica Beil (silvery blush from Chanel Couture), Jennifer Lawrence (vibrant red Dior gown with flaps on the waist), Kate Hudson (glitzy caped gown by Versace), Angelina Jolie (Elie Saab haute couture dress) and Sandra Bullock (strapless navy Alexander McQueen gown with soft drapes to one side) to name a few.

While drama was high at the Academy Awards from Ellen’s presumptuous hosting to Jennifer Lawrence trip at the event; the fashion parade was at its best. Here is a detailed list of the best dressed and the passable winners at the Academy Awards 2014 red carpet. Do have a look!

Lupita Nyong’o

It might be the 12 Years a Slave movie’s actress first sashay down the Oscars, but Lupita has been serving some serious fashion statements this awards season starting with a red caped gown from Ralph Lauren at the Golden Globes to her Prada gown at the Academy Awards last night. Even though it was her first Oscar night, she looked every bit of a seasoned professional to grace the big night. Lupita’s gown was many fashion commentators’ hit of the night.

The actress looked pleased with her custom pleated baby blue Prada gown, which indeed made her like a modern Grecian goddess. Her exquisite gown recalled the work of Madame Gres; which she had accessorized it with a thin embellished headband that gave her the aura of a princess.

The actress certainly made her country proud, as she bagged the Best Supporting Acrtress award for her debut role in 12 Years a Slave movie.

Lupita had this to say, while collecting the golden statue through tears,

“It doesn’t escape me for one moment that so much joy in my life is thanks to so much pain in someone else’s.”

Nyong’o ended her speech by hoping that her Academy Award would “remind me and every little child that, no matter where you’re from, your dreams are valid.”

Charlize Theron

Charlize Theron was once again at her Oscar fashion best, as she was the epitome of glamor and drama last night in her form-fitting black Dior gown with a sheer and banded trai. While last year, she sizzled in a white Dior Couture gown, this time she once again settled for her favorite designer and chose black over white this time.

Jennifer Lawrence

And the girl did it once again! I am not at all mentioning her fashion statements, but her tripped habits she has been showing us lately. While last year at on Ellen’s chat show, she had revealed how she fell on her way to the stage to collect her trophy last year; this time the girl did it once again soon after she embarked from her limousine.

The accident prone Jennifer Lawrence might have tripped once again, but she never fell out of the fashion meter. The 23 year old actress, who was nominated for the Best Supporting Actress award, once again showed up in her favorite designer’s number. She looked stunning in the peplum red Dior dress, which she has paired with Brian Atwood heels, Ferragamo clutch and Neil Lane jewels.

Cate Blanchett

Ethereal and whimsical, Cate was once again at her best donning the timeless Hollywood glamor in this Armani Prive, soft nude dress with romantic cap sleeves. Even though Cate has been famed for her dramatic avant-garde red carpet silhouettes, this year she preferred to show up in a sumptuous look, as we saw her in a plain Jane nude-shaded Armani gown with structured work of beads, paillettes and sequins accentuated over her flared tulle skirt.

The 44 year old actress, who later won the Best Actress Award for her leading role in Blue Jasmine, had paired her outfit with Swarovski crystals, Roger Vivier shoes and Chopard jewelry.

Angelina Jolie

Angie sparkled in her metallic silver Elie Saab gown, as she fearlessly flaunted her reconstructed breasts with poise. Both Angelina and Brad Pitt were once again the power couple on the red carpet, who certainly had no match this time.

Thankfully, the actress ditched her favorite black and settled down for a sheer long-sleeved metallic gown, which had a cascading beaded pattern. She accessorized her look with Ferragamo shoes & clutch, and Robert Procop Jewels.

Last year, when the actress was diagnosed with the BRCA gene, with 87% risk of breast cancer and 50% risk of ovarian cancer, the bold actress decided to go for double mastectomy.

Here is an excerpt from her interview with the Times,

“Once I knew that this was my reality, I decided to be proactive and to minimize the risk as much I could,” Jolie wrote in her Times piece last year. “I made a decision to have a preventive double mastectomy. I started with the breasts, as my risk of breast cancer is higher than my risk of ovarian cancer, and the surgery is more complex.”

Kate Hudson

Even though Kate was not nominated for Oscars this time, she was definitely a hand’s down winner at the red carpet last night. The 34-year old actress channeled the old Hollywood retro glam look in silky silver Atelier Versace gown which had a liquid-like fit and she wore like a dream.

While her low-dipping neckline and the strategically placed knot right at the belly button enabled her a super-chic yet sexy look; her perfect hair-do and accessories gave her the scoring points for the big event. She had paired her Versace gown with Neil Lane jewels.

Amy Adams

Amy looked beautiful and poised in the tuxedo-inspired blue Gucci gown, as she arrived with her beau at the 2014 Academy Awards held at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood.

The “American Hustle” star sashayed her way down the star-studded carpet in a strapless gown which had faux pockets at the hips and flaps on the chest with a small train behind. Even though the actress received mixed reviews for her outfit choice, Fashionlady has roped her into the list of best dressed at the Oscars 2014 for her clean, sophisticated look.

She had paired her Gucci gown with Christian Louboutin shoes and a Tiffany & Co. clutch and jewelry.

Sandra Bullock

The actress might have lost the Best Actress award to Cate Blanchett, but she certainly created gravity at the big night as she appeared in a navy Alexander McQueen gown. The ‘Gravity’ actress managed to stomp the likes of the fashion goddesses including Angelina Jolie and Charlize Theron.

The satin gown featured a sweetheart neckline flanked by dramatic draping radiating subdued elegance that would make any actress envious.

And not to mention her perfect hairdo with side-swept curls and Lorraine Schwartz jewelry complemented her overall look.

Emma Watson

I could not help but include Emma Watson into the list of the best dressed, as the 23 year old actress did not give any reason not to tag her among the best dressed. I salute her fashion sense, as she looked breathtaking in the metallic number by Vera Wang.

The Hogwarts alumnus, who made sure to be the spotlight of the evening, even dared to flash her thong through her metallic shimmer dress. She was soon tagged all over the social media as “Thong-tastic”.

The Harry Potter actress glammed up her look with Jimmy Choo shoes, Anita Ko, Chanel, Repossi, Bouchoron, and Solange jewelry, Jessica McCormack star hair pins and an Anya Hindmarch clutch.

Naomi Watts

Naomi Watts’ red carpet fashion statement has either been a hit or miss. No matter what the ‘Diana’ actress has never shied away from experimenting and this time her effort paid off as she Oscar outfit choice managed to earn her a place among the best dressed of this year at the Academy Awards.

The 45-year old actress emerged out as the Snow White, as she arrived in an embroidered white Calvin Klein gown, which she paired with stunning accessories with Bulgari bag and diamond jewelries.

Kristen Bell

Kristen, had tweeted earlier in the day with a close-up pic of her clutch and I quote, “When you see me on the red carpet of the Oscars tonight, just know…there’s a burrito in my clutch.”

She might not have really brought the burrito to the Oscars, but certainly dragged everyone’s attention to her clutch followed by her sizzling outfit. The ‘Veronica Mars’ actress opted for a corseted Cavalli gown. The mermaid silhouette featured a constricting corset top flanked by a fluffy bottom, which gave an edge to her look.

And now the passable winners at the red carpet!

Meryl Streep

meryl-streep-oscars-2014-red-carpet

Even at the age of 64, Meryl Streep can easily give other younger actresses a heavy competition – be it for Oscars or her fabulous fashion statement over the years. The veteran actress has been nominated for over 18 times at the Oscars, thereby becoming the only actress to have been nominated so many times till date.

Last night she might have lost the Best Actress award to Cate Blanchett, but the lady was in her full spirits as she looked lively and young in a cream long sleeved top and maxi-skirt by Lanvin.

As Tina Fey put it at this year’s Golden Globes, “Meryl Streep so brilliant in ‘August: Osage County,’ proving that there are still great parts in Hollywood for Meryl Streep over 60.”; the actress is my all time favorite.

Anne Hathaway

anne-hathaway-oscars-2014-red-carpet

It seems Anne has learned a lesson from her last year’s wardrobe malfunction, which bombarded her with an array of Twitter comments. This time with nipple darts, be gone, the girl settled down for a sparkling rhinestone-armored black halter Gucci dress. The dress not only flaunted her killer curves but even suited her pixies.

To complement her riveting dress, the 31-year-old went for Neil Lane jewels with minimal makeup: a rose lip, light pink blush and a bare eye save for some liner.

Jenna Dewan-Tatum

Channing-Tatum-Jenna-Dewan-Tatum-oscars-red-carpet-2014

Who could believe this stunning diva is only year old mother? The hot mama managed to get back into shape in just one year, as she sizzled the red carpet with her husband Channing Tatum flaunting her curves.

The actress looked magnificent in Reem Acra feather dress, which was even compared to the Cate’s nude-shaded outfit by many fashion bloggers.

Jessica Beil

jessica-beil-oscars-2014-red-carpet

Jessica might not have been accompanied by her husband Justin Timberlake, but she took over the center stage all by herself with poise. The actress sizzled in a nude Chanel Couture gown with silver shimmer accents, which she had paired with Chanel Haute Couture bag, Manolo Blahnik shoes, and Tiffany & Co. jewels.

While the actress is celebrating her 32nd birthday today, she had already pampered herself with a customized facial from Kinara Spa in West Hollywood for last night’s and today’s events.

Portia De Rossi

portia-de-rossi-oscars-red-carpet-2014

Wife of last night event’s host, Ellen DeGeneres, Portia was a head-to-toe stunner in a Naeem Khan creation. Her ivory honey-comb-beaded halter gown gave her scoring points at the red carpet, as she completed her look with Brian Atwood shoes, Fendi purse, and Dior jewelry. While Ellen looked smart and composed in YSL suit.

Julia Roberts

It’s been a horrendous month for Julia, as she recently lost her half sister to drug overdose on Sunday and her mother is admitted in hospital battling with lung cancer.

julia-roberts-red-carpet-oscars-2014

Even in the wake of her half sister’s death, Julia managed to attend the Academy Awards as she was nominated for the Best Supporting Actress award for her role in August: Osage County.

However, the 46-year old actress showed up in a mournful black number by Givenchy, which she had paired up with Bulgari jewels.

Penelope Cruz

While Penelope is one such actress, who rarely disappoints us with her fashion sense; this time sadly enough I had to list her among the passable winners as she looked so-so  in Giambattista Valli. Even her Chopard jewelries and high knot didn’t bring out the magic, which she has been creating for years now.

Idina Menzel

Her name might have been flubbed by John Travolta in her introduction, but Idina Menzel rocked the stage later in the evening with her “letting it go” Oscars performance on Sunday night.

The singer and actress already had scored a lead-in at the red carpet, as she appeared in a a Vera Wang number in ‘wicked green’. The 42 year old singer not only sizzled at the red carpet, but bagged a golden statue for Best Original Song.

She had paired her Vera Wang gown, which flaunted her curves with Chimento jewelry.

Margot Robbie

While the Wolf of Wall Street actress was under the spotlight for her off-white Gucci gown with crystal detailing at Golden Globes; for Academy Awards, Margot opted for a YSL black dress and not to mention a new hair color that completely changed her look. After ditching her blonde look, the actress was hard to be recognized. However, she did seem to be enjoy her new look though.

Hosts of Fashion Police

Hosts of Fashion Police, Kelly Osbourne and  Giuliana Rancic looked elegant as they arrived holding umbrellas to save from the showers.

While Kelly wore a Badgley Mischka dress and paired it with Judith Leiber bag, Solange from LoveGold jewelry and Aldo shoes; Giuliana donned a Paolo Sebastian dress, which she had paired with Forevermark diamonds, Sergio Rossi shoes and Judith Leiber clutch.

Last but not the least – The selfie which broke record on Twitter last night!

selfie-ellen-oscars-2014-twitter

The selfie tweeted by Ellen straight from Oscars has broken all records even beating Obama pic for the most retweets ever.

The Oscars hostess Ellen DeGeneres effortlessly managed to pull off a selfie with so much star wattage, which is incredible — there’s Jennifer Lawrence, Channing Tatum, Julia Roberts, Kevin Spacey, Brad Pitt, Lupita Nyong’o with her brother Junior, Angelina Jolie, Bradley Cooper, Meryl Streep and Jared Leto.
