Remineralize Your Teeth To Flash A Flawless Smile!

Remineralize Teeth
Most of us are so diet conscious these days. Are we? We love to avoid sugar (yet fail), love to order “cheesy” offers (but skip the toothbrush and flossing at night). There are so many ways to hold us back from eating things that are not good for our teeth. Yet there are so many reasons (emotional, basically) to go in for that one bite. Because why should we lag behind when it comes to enjoying sumptuous food and at what cost?

Well, who knows? It could cost you your pearlies! Ok, don’t panic. But that is the hard reality of life.
The diet we eat has a lot of impact on our oral health. And it’s a fact confirmed by dentists.
Tooth decay is a potential threat.
This happens when certain types of bacteria (that multiply due to food lodging) produce harmful acids such as “plaque” which corrodes and destroys the tooth structure. If left untreated, it leads to tooth cavity.

Bottomline – junk food, acidic foods and drinks, and poor oral hygiene lead to tooth decay. Guess the next stage? Things like tooth filling, remineralize teeth (in fact, remineralize teeth naturally and remineralize teeth fast). This means, either we should know how to cure tooth decay or prevent tooth decay in the first place.

Oral hygiene facts for you –

A healthy mouth will have a pH of 7.5 to 8.5. But if the pH is lower than 5.5, it can increase the possibility of a mineral loss from your teeth.

What Is Remineralizing Of Teeth?

The term ‘remineralizing’ means healing tooth cavity. It is a process which is also known as arrested tooth decay.

When a tooth is remineralized, no way does it mean that the missing part of the tooth has grown back. It means any further decay is prevented to ensure a normal functioning of your tooth. That explains why we need to remineralize our teeth.

Tips For Remineralizing Your Teeth Naturally:

Heard of ‘prevention is better than cure’? You can cure tooth decay by arresting the early signs of decay in the following ways:

1. Say No to Sugar And Sodas:

According to the American Dental Association, dental decay happens most when remnants of sugary-n-starchy foods like milk, sodas, candy, and cakes lodge in between our teeth. This becomes a breeding ground for the bacteria to thrive and produce an acid that erodes the tooth enamel.

When you say NO to sugar and sodas and reduce the intake of starchy foods, you are on a good wicket as far as your teeth and gums are concerned. But yes, do check out the sources of “hidden sugar” too, or else its negative impact will be the same as having sugary foods.

2. Reduce Phytate Intake:

Phytates (or phytic acid) are found in lentils, beans, grains, soy, nuts, and seeds. You can optimize the goodness of these superfoods and curtail the related dental risks by “soaking, sprouting or fermenting” them.

3. Have A Vitamin and Mineral Rich Diet:

Just like your body, even oral health needs a package of the following vitamins and minerals:

a. Calcium: Strengthens the tooth enamel and prevents cavities and gum diseases. Sources of calcium – dairy, canned sardines, collard greens, kale, broccoli, fortified drinks (e.g. orange juice, plant-based milk).

b. Magnesium: This mineral too helps to keep cavities at bay and build strong enamel. Sources of magnesium include green leafy vegetables such as legumes, spinach, nuts, seeds and whole grains.

c. Vitamin A: This vitamin helps in salivation. Leafy green vegetables, orange and yellow vegetables, liver and fish oils, mango are good sources of Vitamin A.

d. Vitamin D: This vitamin helps in proper utilization of calcium by the body. You can get plenty of vitamin D from egg yolk, seafood, cod liver oil, beef, fortified foods and loads of it from sun exposure!

e. Zinc: Prevents plaque build-up and the growth of bacteria. There are many sources of zinc on your table – seafood, cashews, beef, pork, chickpeas, toasted wheat, kidney beans, pumpkin seeds and sesame seeds.

f. Iron: This mineral helps to oxygenate the body well. Guess what? A poor iron intake can also lead to bacteria build-up in the mouth and oral infections. Eat iron in the form of liver, seafood, beans, tofu, pumpkin seeds and sesame seeds, canned sardines (in oil), baked potato and broccoli.

g. Phosphorus: Good thing about phosphorus is that it protects tooth enamel. You can get your daily phosphorus dose from almonds, brown rice, potatoes, broccoli, sunflower seeds, beans, tuna, turkey, beef.

4. Eat Foods That Are Teeth-Friendly:

Apart from the foods mentioned above, go ahead and eat apples, pears, celery, raw carrots, and cucumber. These crunchy fruits and vegetables not only have a high water content but they also stimulate the production of saliva which guards against tooth decay (and helps cure tooth decay).

5. Maintain Good Oral Hygiene:

Brushing your teeth twice daily and flossing regularly helps eliminate the plaque that is the breeding ground of acid-producing bacteria.

Practice oil pulling, and use anti-bacterial mouth rinse to disinfect your mouth and kill germs that cause tooth cavity.

6. Use Remineralizing Toothpaste:

In order to remineralize teeth fast, you can use a remineralizing toothpaste or a remineralizing tooth powder (such as activated charcoal remineralizing powder).

Hey, did you know, acid reflux can take a toll on your dental health? Consult a doctor if you suffer from a heartburn and acid reflux frequently to safeguard your teeth enamel.

8. Prevent A “Dry” Mouth:

Proper saliva, as you know, is very good for oral hygiene. It is your best defense which kills bacteria in the mouth, protects tooth enamel, and prevents tooth decay, gum disease, and bad breath.

Down with dehydration, stress, illness, or have an advancing age? All these can lead to more of tooth cavity and other issues pertaining to oral health.
