Recipient of Padma Shri in 2013, Ritu Kumar has had a solid background in art history and museology. The ace designer spent her childhood in the serene mountains of Simla. Thereafter, she went to Delhi for her higher education where she met her future life partner. Her parents conditioned her to become independent unlike some parents in the ‘60s who were against educating their daughters. Says the fashion designer “My parents and grandparents were highly educated and believed in imparting it, too. My father was very ambitious for me academically, so I could discuss careers with him, whereas my mother and I shared a great emotional bond.”
