In India, couture means bridal wears! And a fashion show has less glamour with no Bollywood presence in our country! Hence, Shree Raj Mahal Jewellers India Couture Week 2014 saw no dearth of starry delight. With India’s top couturiers showcasing their collection, Bollywood showstoppers added the extra glam quotient to their shows.
FashionLady lists down the Bollywood showstoppers at the recently concluded India Couture Week 2014.
Rani Mukherjee for Sabyasachi Mukherjee
After a long, the newly wed Rani Mukherjee was on the ramp! It was obvious that she came for her favourite designer Sabyasachi Mukherjee, who also designed Mukherjee’s wedding lehenga. The backdrop of a runway designed into a luxury train, Rani Mukherjee, who was initially sitting on the front row later walked down the runway for the Sabyasachi. She wore a beige embellished zardosi saree.
In an interview, Rani Mukherjee told reporters:
I feel really emotional seeing his collection. I hope that’s a good thing. I really enjoyed watching his collection. One could see the hard work, the blood and sweat he has put into every outfit. Every show of Sabyasachi is different.
Malaika Arora Khan and Nimrat Kaur for Rina Dhaka
Rina Dhaka had a privilege of not only one but two hot showstoppers. Yes, the evergreen beauty Malaika Arora Khan and the fresh Bollywood face Nimrat Kaur. The designer’s main attraction of the collection was the iconography of the gota work of Rajasthan. She placed the gota patti against sheers and lace, which came out beautifully.
Tinsel town diva and a hottest mother Malaika Arora Khan sashayed on the runway in a chiffon and tulle saree with choli, done in layers with silver patterned leaves and satin. She accessorised her outfit with a green necklace by the show sponsors SRM jewellers. Her choli or blouse back has dori detailing with a hanging green emerald stone, enhancing the beauty of the outfit.
While the other showstopper Nimrat Kaur walked down wearing a gorgeous red lehenga with a choli having similar design that of Malaika’s. Her outfit was accessorised with red rubies and pearls.
Rina Dhaka on her showstoppers –
Because I was showing a traditional line, Nimrat embodies a modern women who has got talent and acquired craft. Malaika is my sweetheart from earlier times. To me, she is what I was and what I will always be, a women who not only has a face but also a body.
Kangana Ranaut for Anju Modi
She is just back from her script-writing course and directly landed on the runway for Anju Modi’s couture show! Reliving royalty, actress Kangana Ranaut flaunted her stunning high panelled black and golden lehenga with a long-sleeved choli. Her outfit was accessorised with earrings and her hair was done up in a bun.
Anju Modi on her showstopper –
Kangana was the best person to convey the theme of my collection as she is a modern woman of today, and yet values our heritage and culture. The underlying sense of old world charm that engulfs Kangana made her the perfect choice for me, especially with the theme of my collection Manikarnika, being about reincarnation and a revisitation of our cultural and design heritage. She personifies the woman of today, which is a central thought that translates through our efforts to contemporise ancient techniques.
Lisa Haydon for Monisha Jaising
From being a supermodel to a showstopper, Lisa Haydon is now a Bollywood actress who leaves no chances in flaunting her catwalking skills! Showstopper for Monisha Jaising, Lisa Haydon looked a contemporary bride in a heavily embroidered lehenga, which was teamed up with a white knotted top for a modern take. She complimented her modern bridal look by wearing ‘Choodas’ and ‘Kaliras’.
Aditya Roy Kapoor, Alia Bhatt, Huma Qureshi and Urmila Matondkar for Manish Malhotra
Manish Malhotra’s show has always been a starry affairs! This time, it was new Bollywood kids on the block. Yes, Alia Bhatt and Aditya Roy Kapoor walked down the runway as Malhotra’s showstoppers. The tall, fair and handsome Aditya Roy Kapoor was wearing a gold embroidered sherwani with cream-coloured palazzo pants and gold juttis while Alia Bhatt dazzled in a red and golden velvet lehenga with a scoop neck full-sleeved blouse and net dupatta.
Actress Huma Qureshi too flaunted Malhotra’s maroon outfit while Urmila Matondkar was seen on the ramp after quite a long time and that too in a turquoise gown with golden embroideries. We loved both!
Alia Bhatt on her experience –
It’s like a dream come true for me to walk in Manish’s creations. Two years ago, I was sitting in the audience at his show and Kareena Kapoor was the showstopper and I wondered when I would get to walk for him. I did not realise how heavy the clothes were until I actually walked in them today.
Aditya Roy Kapoor on his experience –
He makes you look so good I think half the job is done. It makes you feel that you have arrived. Aliya just gave me one piece of advice and that was ‘Don’t fall‘.
Manish Malhotra says –
It is the first time that Alia and Aditya have come together. You need your muses to be people of today… Stars of today. Both of them are good looking, glamorous, fashionable and stylish.
Shraddha Kapoor for Gaurav Gupta
Shraddha Kapoor is a rising star! It was evident when she confidently walked on the runway for Gaurav Gupta as his showstopper in a sequined ivory off-shouldered gown with a beautiful embellished cape. Her hair were tied in a bun, which gave a very stunning look to her dramatic walk.
Shraddha Kapoor on her experience –
I felt like I was in a dream when I wore this dress and walked on this gigantic cloud, which is the ramp. It’s such a great collection. Gaurav’s clothes make you feel confident, like you just came out of a fantasy.
Gaurav Gupta speaks of his showstopper –
My collection is (based) around Nyx, goddess of night, and Shraddha looks like one. She is an Indian global star and very beautiful. She looked like a goddess
Huma Qureshi for Rimple and Harpreet Narula
She earlier walked for Manish Malhotra in India Couture Week 2014 and now as a showstopper for the designer duo Rimple and Harpreet Narula, adding the glam quotient to their show! Huma Qureshi looked no less than an Indian princess in beige coloured lehenga choli with low-cut back and full sleeves. The lehenga had antique zari detailing and a tulle trail. She draped her dupatta stylishly over her shoulders and her lehenga was done with the mirror work. Her auburn hair was kept loose and large ear studs just complimented her looks.
Huma Qureshi on walking for the designer duo –
I have done a shoot with them and I really like their bridal work. It’s interesting to walk for them. Also, since the fashion week was happening in Delhi, I thought why not? I always look for excuses to visit Delhi.
Ileana D’Cruz for Sulakshana Monga
After ‘Barfi’, the south beauty is sizzling the Indian ramp like never before. Looking as gorgeous as ever, Ileana D’Cruz rocked the runway for Sulakshana Monga in a neon-pink sari, which she teamed up with silver-toned blouse. Her blouse was encrusted with pearls.
Ileana D’Cruz speaks about her experience –
This neon pink is not my colour. I was a little nervous about this outfit but Sulakshana convinced me and I finally agreed. I think it turned out pretty well considering the loud cheers that welcomed me on the ramp. Although black was originally my favourite colour, after slipping into thisdress.
Chitrangada Singh and Bipasha Basu for Shree Raj Mahal Jewellers
The curtain down show was all about jewels! Bollywood divas Chitrangada Singh and Bipasha Basu both dazzled the show in their own stylish manner. Chitrangada Singh inaugurated the show in a Gauri-Nainika one-shoulder black ball gown, which she accessorised with stunning diamond necklace from Shree Raj Mahal Jewellers latest collection. Having given a tribute to Hollywood legend Marilyn Monroe, she strutted down the ramp to the classic song Diamonds are a Girl’s Best Friend, which was popularly performed by Monroe in the 1953 film, Gentlemen Prefer Blondes.
Chitrangada Singh says –
The diamond neckpiece was the reason we decided to do the whole Marilyn act on stage. I was nervous because no one can do it the way Marilyn did, but I had fun.
While Chitrangada oozed elegance in western statement neckpiece, Bipasha Basu spread bridal elegance in Rohit Bal’s rusty red lehenga, which she complimented with an elaborate polka neckpiece, earrings and maang tika.
Bipasha Basu on her experience –
Whenever I wear an Indian outfit, I make sure of accessorising it well with jewellery and today I am feeling like a queen. I started my career as a model and it’s great to come back to Delhi again and walk on ramp. It was such a great welcome that I felt emotional.
