On the backdrop of Qutub Minar at Quli Khan’s Tomb, it felt as if the whole green lush of Kashmir valley had come alive on the ramp with couture designer Rohit Bal giving a tribute to Mughal Gardens of Kashmir in his spring summer 2015 collection at the Grand Finale of Wills Lifestyle India Fashion Week held in New Delhi. Rohit Bal created exclusive collection for the finale having his signature aesthetics in each piece of creation i.e. having the feel of contemporary in strong Indian sensibilities.

The Ambience

The collection titled ‘Gulbagh’ mesmerized the audience through the visual as wel as musical spectacle via flowers and live music on the recreated court of the Mughals. While live Sufi music welcomed the guests, the resounding voice of internationally acclaimed doyen of Indian classical music – Shubha Mudgal sung during the opening of the show. And the models began to sashay on the runway adorned with flowers.

Rohit Bal quotes

It is wonderful to be back and a great honor to be doing the grand finale at the Wills Lifestyle India Fashion Week once again. It is a perfect platform for me to show uninhibited creativity and express myself through a collection that transcends all seasons and reflects my sense of aesthetics without any constraints.

The Fabrics

The fabrics range from fine handlooms like chanderi, fine mulmul, matka silk and voile while velvet lends a hint of luxury. While the silhouettes ranging from floor length anarkalis worn with long achkans, ghaghra skirts with kedia tops or cholis with boleros for women and sherwanis, harem pants with kedias and jackets, kalidars with long achkans for men ruled the runway.

The Detailing

Techniques like hand-block printing have been used with vegetable dyes and gold leaf embossing, with a generous use of quilting and tilla, hand embroidery in resham. This subtle collection revels in an extravagant use of thread and metallic gold. Ivory forms the basis of this canvas, embroidered and printed in deep jewel tones enhancing the purity of this earthy textile. The use of rich brocade from Varanasi adds the right amount of glamour and opulence to the otherwise understated and demure collection.

Have a look at the collection and be mesmerized at the richness!!
