Album of the Year
No prices for guessing that the chart toppers would include Adele’s 25, the album through which she explains the big emotions of life. When life gives you lemons, you make lemonade – a statement we had heard many times, but only Beyoncé put that into practice. The fierce mother of one put her famous husband on final notice and turned all the bitterness into Lemonade and from the day of its drop we knew it would be on the big nominations. Despite the singer boycotting the event, purpose has found itself on the nominations along with Drake’s Views and Sturgill Simpson’s A Sailor’s Guide to Earth.
Record of the Year
Two record breakers face each other in the run for the “record of the year” title – Adele for ‘Hello’ and Beyoncé for ‘Formation.’ They are joint by Lukas Graham with his record ‘7 years’, Rihanna with Drake for their collaboration on ‘Work’ and Twenty One ‘Stressed out’ Pilots
Song of the Year
2017 Grammy nominations for the title of ‘Song of the Year’ has done justice to each of the songs we have been humming through the year and has snubbed none. All the numbers in our current playlist are now on the nomination list. Beyoncé is joined by Khalif Brown, Michael L and Asheton Hogan for her brainchild, ‘Formation’. For ‘Hello’ Adele Adkins is sharing her anxiety with Greg Kurstin. “I Took a Pill In Ibiza” has gained songwriter Mike Posner a place on the list. Ed Sheeran, along with Benjamin Levin and Justin Bieber are eyeing the award for ‘Love Yourself’. Lukas Forchhammer, Morten Pilegaard, Stefan Forrest, and Morten Ristorp have found themselves on the nomination list for their brilliant lyrics of ‘7 Years’.
Best New Artist
The industry has welcomed quite a lot of new talent this year. Among this bunch of new talent, the ones contending with each other for the title of the Best New Artist are Kelsea Ballerini, Chance the Rapper, Maren Morris, Anderson .Paak, and yours and my favorite among all the newbies – The Chainsmokers.
Best Pop Vocal Album
For astonishing vocal quality exhibited in their respective renditions, the Grammy nominees 2017 for the best pop vocal album are Adele for 25, Justin Bieber for Purpose, the very sexy Ariana Grande for “Dangerous Woman”, Demi Lovato for “Confident”, and the enigmatic Sia for “This Is Acting”.
Best Dance/Electronic Album
Because the celebration of music and rhythm is not limited to the vocals, we have more innovative nominations to honor the ones with diverse talent. Albums shortlisted for Best dance/electronic album are “Skin” by Flume, “Electronica 1: The Time Machine” by Jean-Michel Jarre, “Epoch” by Tycho, “Barbara Barbara, We Face a Shining Future” by Underworld, and Louie Vega’s “Louie Vega Starring…XXVIII”.
Best Alternative Music Album
Continuing with the aim to honor music that might not be the best known ones but are come from equally talented artists, the Grammy’s have nominated Bon Iver’s “22, a Million”, PJ Harvey’s “The Hope Six Demolition Project”, Iggy Pop’s “Post Pop Depression”, David Bowie’s “Blackstar”, and Radiohead’s “A Moon Shaped Pool” for the title of Best alternative music album.
Best Rap Performance
You must have waited all this while to learn of these nominations and I won’t be surprised if you tell me you have just scrolled down straight to know which of your favorite rappers have been nominated. The answers are Drake Featuring the Throne, Fat Joe & Remy Ma featuring French Montana & Infared, Schoolboy Q featuring Kanye West, Chance the Rapper featuring Lil Wayne & 2 Chainz, and Desiigner are competing with each other for their rap performances in “Pop Style”, “All the Way Up”, “That Part”, “No Problem”, “Panda”.
Best Country Solo Performance
One reason I’ve turned into an ardent country music lover is Taylor Swift. We never know how many more gems are lying in the rough. For now, the nominations for 2017 country solo performance are Brandy Clark for “Love Can Go to Hell“, Maren Morris for “My Church”, Miranda Lambert for “Vice”, Keith Urban, “Blue Ain’t Your Color”, and Carrie Underwood for “Church Bells”.
The Grammy would be telecast live on February 12th. So make sure you don’t miss a minute of it and witness your favorite artist take home the big title.
