Winter is the biggest enemy for dry hair and other deterring factors like pollution, frequent exposure to sun, chlorinated water, electric curlers, blow dryers and hair dyes will only intensify the complications. These hampering factors take away the shine and moisture from your hair, leaving you with frizzy hair.

1. Do the Shehnaz Hussain way
One of the country’s most successful beauty entrepreneurs, Shehnaz Hussain confides on egg when it comes to hair treatment. Egg is the savior for dry and frizzy hair, as it is a great source of protein and lecithin which has ability to repair and strengthen the hair roots. It is a great source of moisture as well, adding shine and texture to the hair.
Method 1: To get rid of frizzy hair, you can add 3 eggs to 2 tablespoons of coconut oil or olive oil. However, make sure you add the egg whites only as yolk takes away the shine and moisture content from the hair. If the dryness is severe then you can add 1 tablespoon of honey. Stir this mixture well and apply to the damp scalp and hair. Now after you’re done applying it, cover the head with a shower cap and let it sit for half an hour. Since it’s winter, you should use lukewarm water to rinse it off as chilled water helps in brittleness.
Method 2: The next trick is that you can beat 2 egg whites in a half-cup of yogurt and add 1 and 1/2 tablespoons of almond oil to the mixture.
Stir the mixture well until it becomes creamy and then massage it on your scalp and hair. Now you can follow the same procedure as above. Cover it with a shower cap and leave it for 3o minutes. Now rinse well with lukewarm water.
Method 3: This treatment involves beating off 3 egg whites into a tablespoon of vinegar. Add 1 tablespoon of olive oil and coconut oil to it with few drops of rosemary essential oil if you have. Apply this mixture following the above mentioned steps.
2. Hot oil – the best remedy in winter
Next to egg, hot oil is one of the best winter treatments for dry hair in winter. You can use any oil for oiling your hair, be it coconut, almond, castor, olive, corn or lanolin. Heat the oil slightly and use a cotton swab to apply it to your roots. The warm oil gets easily absorbed by the pores and helps in adding shine and luster along-with moisturizer to the hair. The hot oil helps in repairing the brittle and damaged hair and preventing further breakage of hair.
After applying the warm oil to the roots, you can now use your fingers to give a good massage gently. Here is the method for hot oil treatment –
Gently heat the oil over low heat and with the help of cotton bud apply the oil to your scalp and hair roots. Massage gently with your fingers to ensure oil is evenly spread. Now wrap a hot towel. The heat opened up the pores, allowing the scalp to soak the oil into it.
Leave it for half an hour and now shampoo with lukewarm water.
3. Honey mask
Honey is another easy and simple home remedy for dry and fizzy hair. Honey is of the best treatments to fight dryness. Apart from hair, it works great on dry skin. It has the ability to retain the moisture content, leaving both the skin and hair nourished, soft and shiny.
How to apply the honey mask?
After shampooing your hair, apply half a cup of honey to the damp hair and gently massage it into the scalp and roots. Now cover the head with a shower cap and leave it for 30 minutes. Now rinse it off well with lukewarm water.
And if you hair is extremely dry like jute then you can add a tablespoon of avocado or coconut oil to honey for better results. If you’re naive of applying honey post hair wash then you can also add honey to shampoo and go for head wash as normally you do.

4. Mayonnaise – The yummy treatment
The tempting mayonnaise may not be friendly with diet conscious people, but it’s certainly a great remedy for beauty treatments.
This full-fat ingredient can work miracle for dry hair. This creamy sauce which contains emulsion of egg yolk, oil, vinegar and lemon juice not only makes the hair moist and soft, but also helps in keeping the dandruff at bay.
You can massage 1/2 cup of mayonnaise into your scalp and hair strands and follow the above method of rinsing.
5. A mix of banana and avocado
While banana helps in preventing split ends, whilst improving the elasticity of the hair, the healing nutrients of avocado deeply nourishes and moisturizes the hair leaving it strong and shiny.
Method: For this you need to mix one banana and one avocado along-with 1/2 tablespoon of almond oil. Now massage this puree on scalp and all over and follow the above mentioned procedure.
6.Aloe Vera treatment
This is one of my favorite beauty aids, especially the aloe vera gel for my face. It not only moisturizes the skin but keeps it oil free. It is also another great home remedy for dry hair.
Method: Mix 2-3 tablespoons of aloe vera gel with coconut oil and add 3 tablespoons of yogurt and mix well. Apply this mixture and let it sit for half an hour and rinse well with shampoo.
7. The Beer factor
Beer is an excellent hair tonic due to which Park Avenue has also come up with beer shampoo recently. Instead of relying upon those commercial products, you can simply go for real beer. It acts best to repair damaged hair as it contains Vitamin B.
Method: You can put some beer in a spray bottle and spray it on the damp hair after the wash. Now blow dry the hair to remove the beer smell from your hair, leaving behind shine and glow that you hair has been craving for.
8. Gelatin for hair
Gelatin is an excellent source of protein and therefore, a great treatment for damaged and dry hair. Gelatin not only retains moisture content but also induce protein to the hair making them healthy and strong enough to fight breakage.
Method: Add 1 cup of warm water to 1 tablespoon of gelatin and stir until it’s completely absorbed. Now add 1 tbsp of vinegar along-with few drops of lavender, lemon or rosemary essential oil. Apply this mixture and leave it for 10 minutes and rinse it off with lukewarm water.
9. Cider Vinegar as conditioner
Apple cider vinegar can work as one of the best natural hair conditioners, which make the hair look soft, shiny and moisturized. Apart from removing the shampoo ingredients from hair, it acts as a protective coat to the scalp. This protective shield restores the natural pH balance thereby keeping dandruff and itching at bay.
Method: For this, you’ll have to add half a cup of apple cider vinegar to 1 cup of normal water and apply it to your hair. Wait for 10 minutes before rinsing it thoroughly. It gives extra shine to the hair.
10. Fenugreek seeds for dandruff
Apart from yogurt, fenugreek seeds (methi) can be the best home remedy for dandruff treatment. A dry scalp leads to dandruff and eventually loss of hair. Methi is the best treatment for dandruff.
Method: For this, you’ll have to soak 1-2 tablespoons of fenugreek seeds (depending upon the volume of your hair) overnight. Next day prepare a paste out of it and apply on the scalp and roots., Wait for 3-40 minutes and wash it off thoroughly as the paste is sticky enough to wash off easily. Do not let it dry for long as it becomes hard as heena pack. Be careful while applying the paste as it gives burning sensation to the eyes.
