The seventh season of India Runway Week was a smashing success and we can’t wait to share all the details with you!!! The IRW was a three day event from 16th to 18th September, 2016 held at Thyagraj Stadium, New Delhi. The IRW is synonymous with being Asia’s youngest fashion trade event which is the perfect platform for new and budding designers to showcase their work and talent.
With the IRW as their stepping stone, the designers made utmost use of this platform and wowed us all with their amazing creations. Here are some of the designers and their work that we absolutely adored.
Bangladeshi designer Bibi Russell opened the show on Day 1 with her exquisite collection under the label Rajasthali. With mix and match silhouettes in colors ranging from subtle to bright shades, her designs focused on Indian textiles and heritage. Following the same line of thought was designer Daniel Syiem from Meghalaya whose designs were a perfect balance of ethnicity and modern cuts.

With Mandana Karimi as the show stopper, Studio AV by Gaurav and Nitesh presented their collection titled ‘Dhaage’. With fabrics ranging from Bhagalpur Silks, Muga silk from Assam and traditional Benarasi handloom, they had a perfect base fabric to show off some beautiful embroidery with zardosi and dapka work. The entire collection was handmade.
The second day of the event saw the gorgeous Esha Gupta setting the ramp on fire as she walked for designer Yoshita Yadav. Inspired by the city of Lucknow, Yoshita Couture was a true reflection of Lucknow with motifs taken from Rumi Darwaza, Bara Imambara and Chhota Imambara. The 100% raw silk fabric weaved in Varanasi and Bengaluru simply took our breath away!
Another designer whose collection looked out of the world was Shalini who titled her collection Kaaisha. Her creations focused on the rich Indian heritage and centuries’ old craftsmanship.
