Foods That Cause Acne
After our article on acne breakouts, we have a detailed article on what food to avoid for acne prone skin.
Why Avoid Chocolate: The reason for this avoidance is that food rich in fatty acid and sugar lead to sebum production in our body and promote inflammatory responses.
Now who doesn’t love chocolates? More so if you are a 15 years old beautiful teenager, with young men gifting you teddy bears and chocolates every now and then, how can you just avoid them? But then my friend, if you want that attention pouring in, you have to say no to chocolates, may be pass them on to other friends.
2. Avoid Spicy Food
Food rich in spice content, particularly red chilies or red chili powder increases the chances of break out. The breakouts also depend on a lot of factors like your genes, hormonal fluctuations, and family history of acne. Nevertheless, as there are theories of spicy food causing acne, it is preferable to avoid as much as possible.
3. Say No to Cheese
Why Avoid Cheese: Researchers have found a link between dairy cheese and acne eruptions. In 2007, a body of American researchers carried out a study that involved 43 young men including many teenagers. It was observed that those who had cheese in their regular diet, faced more troubled breakouts than those who did not consume the dairy product.

Why Avoid Nuts: To be honest the direct link between the consumption of nuts and pimples have not been established, it has often been claimed by scientists that a high-glycemic diet has triggered breakouts in many occasions.
5. Peanut Butter
Why Avoid Peanut Butter: Peanut butter is gaining popularity in this part of the sub-continent as an alternative to jams and butter in sandwich, but do we know that this product may have severe side-effects if used for an extended period. Acne is just one among them. This is due to the same reason we would suggest avoiding nuts for the time being.
Again saying, how your body reacts to a certain diet or food item depends a vastly on your hormonal condition which can completely differ from that of your best friend’s.
This one is a bad news, personally to me, because I am someone who survives majorly on coffee. But the problem out here is, on one hand it will not only help you wake up, and on the other hand also cause ugly breakouts all over.
Why Avoid Coffee: A particular organic acid in the coffee beans promotes the level of cortisol. Cortisol is apparently our stress hormone.
Hmm… the trick here is, we may all shift to tea or green tea. That will be a lot beneficial.
I know, this one is going to be hard. This is almost the staple food for the huge population.
Why Avoid Bread: Wheat as a cereal does cause inflammation. So the logic says, to reduce inflammation in your body you will have to cut down on the intake of wheat or bread.
As a matter of fact, the bread you buy from the bakery has, in addition to wheat, sugar, diary and soy. So, when you consume a slice of the good brown bread, you unintentionally consume all the three triggers of acne.
8. Fried Food
Apparently it turns out, life isn’t that fair. After no to chocolates, we have to take one less trip to McDonald’s.
Why Avoid Fried Foods: Burger, pizza, French fries, and all other oil soaked food have an adverse reaction on your skin. Not only they causes the breakouts, they will make your skin oily and dull.
Now the question is, if one has to abandon all the favorite foods in one go, what does one survive on? Well, the dietitians say that if you have real bad breakout problems, avoid all the above foods.
- Include as many fresh vegetables and fruits in your diet as possible
- Drink lots of water and liquids
