Simple Exercises and Tips to Prevent Wrinkles on the Face
While Botox injections and expensive treatments have become increasingly popular, there are also some other effective and less expensive ways in which to prevent facial wrinkles. So instead of paying through the nose for such highly expensive, temporary solutions, why not opt for prevention of wrinkles?

Banish Those Frown Lines

Collagen production slows down as we age and this leads to wrinkles taking a permanent place in our face. If you are in the habit of frowning all the time, you will notice that frown lines begin to make little grooves on your skin, and deepen as you age. To avoid this, the first step is to rope in friends and family to alert you when you’re frowning.

For some people, frowning becomes almost a part of their face that they do not even notice that they’re doing it. They frown when they’re annoyed, they frown when they’re thinking, and they frown sometimes for no particular reason at all. Having the people around you tell you to stop frowning will help you realise how often you do it.

The next step is to make a conscious effort to not frown. Also go in for an eye check-up as sometimes people who need to wear glasses frown to focus their vision. So check to see if you need to wear glasses and do it immediately. This will also help eliminate the frowning.

At nights, just before you go to bed, massage away your frown lines with some soothing oil.

Protect Yourself from the Sun

The harsh sun wreaks havoc on your skin. Did you know that almost ninety percent of the signs of ageing occur as a result of constant exposure to the sun’s UV rays? So always wear a sun block, even if you’re indoors. Make it a part of your everyday routine. When you step out of the shower, slather yourself with sunscreen and also carry it in your handbag to be reapplied throughout the day. Try finding lipsticks or lip balms with SPF to protect your delicate lips as well. Also carry a pair of sunglasses to protect your eyes.

Long term exposure to the sun results in weathered leathery looking skin. So make it a point to constantly battle against the sun to keep your face wrinkle-free.

Practice Face Exercises

Just as you exercise your body muscles to keep your body fit and in shape, it makes sense to work your facial muscles as well, in order to keep your face in shape and looking fit and young. Every morning, right after you brush your teeth, look into the mirror and make funny faces. Yes! It is as simple as that. Smile widely, puff up your cheeks and then suck them in, pout your lips, frown, raise your eyebrows, wink, scrunch up your nose, and do every silly expression you can think of. This helps relax the facial muscles and if you keep practising it daily, it helps to tighten the skin and make you look younger than your age.

Provide Food for Your Face

Once a week, apply a face mask and leave it on for fifteen minutes before washing it off with warm water. You can use aloe vera, cucumber, yogurt, oats, the white of an egg, amla (Indian gooseberry) and other such nourishing foods for your face. These replenish your skin and help it fight wrinkles and other signs of aging.

Sleep in the Right Position

Always sleep on your back with your face facing the ceiling. This is the ideal position to sleep in as your face gets to breathe and rest. If you sleep on your side or sleep face down, you put pressure on your face and the skin gets squished and pressed on the pillow. Avoiding all this goes a long way in keeping your skin at its best. Also, use pillow covers that are soft and gentle on your skin.

Make Fish a Staple Food

Include a lot of fish in your diet. Fish contains omega 3 fatty acids. They help nourish skin, keeping your face looking young and wrinkle-free. It keeps you skin hydrated and helps balance oil production. Omega 3 fatty acids contain antioxidants that protect your skin from the damage caused by the sun.

Apart from all these tips, one thing to always remember is to never ever sleep with your makeup on. You do not want to leave all those chemicals to clogging your pores throughout the night, damaging your skin. And be extra diligent while removing eye makeup as the area around the eye is super delicate and should be treated with utmost care. It is also a good idea to switch to mineral or natural makeup as it is less damaging to the skin compared to all the chemical-packed cosmetics being sold in the market.
