What is Holographic Trend:

There is a space-age style rebirth happening currently and shiny hues are big news this season. We’re talking about the holographic trend, a fashion style that screams CELEBRATION. Giving out a very futuristic vibe, the foil-effect fabric has taken the fashion scenes by a storm. In this trend, fashion gets into a mood of reflection and is a lot brighter. Like rainbow-meets-metallic bright. Iridescent colors are everywhere this year.

How Did The Holographic Fashion Trend Start?

Way back in 2013, International fashion designers like Stella McCartne, Burberry, Blumarine and even Jonathan Saunders used holographic fabrics for their clothing design. This was showcased in their 2013 S/S women’s collection. Little did we know that the iridescent trend would make a comeback in 2018.

New York designers including Tom Ford, Sies Marjan, Jeremy Scott, Maryam Nassir Zadeh and Tibi incorporated the blingy fabric onto the likes of trench coats, leggings, evening gowns, in gorgeous shades of peaches, mints and whites.

The trend was then followed by London designers like Arthur Arbesser and Emilia Wickstead cloaking everything from tea dresses to trousers, and even statement jackets.

Later, in Milan, designers and brands like Moschino, Roberto Cavalli and Gucci too were smitten by the reflective trend. However, the holographic fashion has been most prominent in Paris.

Closer to home, our Bollywood ladies too are bitten by holographic clothing. Indian fashion designers like Amit Aggarwal, Monisha Jaising, among others have beautifully weaved in the trend into the Indian fashion scenes.

How To Wear Holographic Dresses & Other Fashion Items:

By now it is pretty obvious that the holographic colour is the new black and that it’s here to stay for a while. It is however very important to know how to pull of the trend without looking like a shiny disco ball.

  • For beginners, limit the holographic color to evening events.
  • You can pair you little black dress with an iridescent jacket.
  • If you are sporting a holographic cocktail dress, make sure your footwear is in a neutral color.
  • Don’t go overboard by wearing top and bottom in the reflective color. Go neutral either on top or bottom.
  • For a daytime look, add a touch of iridescence to your look in the form of accessories. A belt or a bracelet should work.
  • To add a pop of color to your plain-jane outfit, carry an iridescent clutch. This works best at both, day and night events.
  • You can take a day look to night by adding holographic jewelry to it.
  • You can go holographic on your eyes, lips and nails as well. But remember, it should be either eyes or lips or nails, and not all three at one time.
  • If you are not very confident about pulling off the technicolor, try wearing a holographic mini skirt. This is the right piece for beginners.
