Learn to Keep Your Hair in Top Shape
Knots and tangles, arghhh! What have the summer months done to our hair, the strands are all matted and tangled, there’s plenty of product build-up too and thanks to the number of products used for styling, the waves of our hair have gone messy too. Time to properly clean and detangle the lovely locks! Here are five pain-free Ways to Detangle Curly Hair.
Co-Washing
Wavy to curly hair women should indulge in the concept of co-washing, twice a week preferably. Co-washing helps clean the hair and removes build-up too, but if you have oily hair, you shouldn’t co-wash – it robs the scalp of its natural oils. Detangling your hair through co-washes is good for normal to dry hair ONLY!

Wet Hair Detangles Easier Than Semi-Wet or Dry
True that! If you have dry hair, running your fingers or a brush through the hair and trying to detangle them can be a painful thing to do, and would also break away a few strands as well. What you need to do then is to pre-cleanse with oil and water (1:1), to save those waves. Apply the pre-cleanse mix to the hair, wait for five minutes and gently run your fingers through the locks – hair detangled and now you can wash them clean. Best of curly hair tips and maintenance through pre-cleansing now told to you!

Reverse Hair Washing
Grab your favourite hair conditioner and apply generously on your hair, the roots and the scalp especially. Wait for ten minutes and then apply a mild shampoo to the hair. Massage well and the hair detangles in a jiffy. Wash off with clean cold water thereafter and blow dry!

Detangling Dry Hair
Although we advise against it, but for some women it works wonders. Shrinkage happens to the hair when it is wet, and not when dry. And when the hair is dry, it is in the strongest possible stance to battle an onslaught too. Finger combing and very gentle strokes does it; and you would need a lot of patience to handle the rigmarole too. Depending on the length of your hair, it could take an hour to more than three to detangle every curl!

Use shikakai (2 cups) with water (1 cup) to form a paste and apply gently all over your damp hair. The paste would soak into the hair and the roots and would also soften the hair too. You may sit in the sun for ten minutes to allow the benefits of shikakai to gently soak into the scalp and the hair, and then work out the reverse hair washing method or the co-washing regime to clean the hair.
