Every now and then the fashion world shocks us with a new trend, leaving us gaping. It happened with high-waist trousers coming back into fashion, something we thought would never happen. And it is happening yet again with a highly bizarre trend. Apparently, shower shoes are now the coolest thing that you can wear when you step out of your house. And no, we are not talking about some fancy version of it. We are talking about those rubber slip-on sandals. When we spotted the trend on the fashion runway, we were not sure if it was a joke or not. But Hollywood celebrities have been flaunting shower shoes and have managed to convince us that shower shoes are indeed a new trend.

On the Fashion Runway
We are so used to seeing models teetering on high heels that it came as quite a shock to see them wearing shower shoes with their designer clothing. We have to give them credit for carrying them off with ease and looking fabulous doing it.

On Hollywood Boulevard
Of course we still weren’t sure if this was really a thing or just a runway gimmick done to grab attention. But then Hollywood celebrities were spotted sporting this trend. Kat Perry wore bright pink shower shoes that matched her outfit to an award function. Not to be outdone, Rita Ora wore shower shoes with socks and a colourful eye-popping outfit. Dressed from head to toe in Adidas gear, she sure looked like a brand ambassador for the sports brand.
The Olsen Twins
When the Olsen twins, who are fashion gurus and trend setters, wore shower shoes in public, it sealed the deal. Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen own their own brand of clothing and our one of the most influential people when it comes to fashion and trends. And if they deemed the shower shoes worthy enough to be worn in public, then who are we to oppose it?

How to Rock Them
After looking into this weird trend that has taken Hollywood and the fashion runways by storm, we have concluded that there is no right way to wear shower shoes in public. You can either wear them with socks or you can wear them barefoot, it is totally your call. And you can wear them with pants, dresses, shorts or skirts, there is really no hard and fast rules when it comes to this quirky trend.

The Verdict
So do we love or hate this trend? Well, to be honest we are on the fence about it. Sure shower shoes are ugly and do nothing for your posture, but on the flip side they are super comfortable and we are a fan of any fashion trend that is comfortable. But this trend seems to be pushing it. I mean, why can’t we just wear some flat sandals or some ballerina shoes instead? Why do we have to step out wearing hideous shower shoes? It just seems so wrong. Maybe that is the appeal? Doing something that you are not supposed to do? Oh well, love it or hate it but you just can’t ignore it. The shower shoes are the ‘in’ thing right now and we are pretty sure more and more celebrities are going to be sporting this look.
So should you wear shower shoes outdoors or shouldn’t you? That is a question only you can answer. Do you think this trend is cool? If yes, then by all means go ahead and wear you shower shoes out in public. But if you are more on the conservative side, then you might want to give this whacky trend a miss.
