Fact of the matter here is, toothpaste helps in acne treatment as it has a clotting property that reduces redness and swelling. It also stops bacteria to spread across your face pulling out impurities from the pores and dries out the acne thereby reducing its size. Also, some toothpaste contains triclosan that kills bacteria. Next question to puzzle the mind – does toothpaste get rid of spots? Toothpaste, for the use they are meant, have cleaning and bleaching properties, and often carries baking soda as an ingredient. So when you apply toothpaste on spots, it works toward reducing the scars. The silica in some toothpaste, with its anti-inflammatory properties helps heal broken skin. But not only is toothpaste good for pimples glowing on your face, it also prevents formation of new zits – due to the presence of hydrogen peroxide that has anti-bacterial properties to root out pimple-causing bacteria.

Pick The Right Toothpaste For Acne Treatment:

Now there are about a zillion toothpaste on the supermarket aisle, and it’s easy for one to get confused. Keep in mind these points while buying a toothpaste to be used as an anti-acne cream.

  • As we pointed out above, triclosan, baking soda, hydrogen peroxide and silica are good for treating acne, buy one that has these ingredients listed on its pack.
  • Don’t pick a toothpaste that has artificial coloring.
  • Organic brands are best as they have minimum chemicals to sit on your skin.
  • A mint based toothpaste also helps cooling down the stingy sensation.
  • Remember, gel-based toothpastes don’t do any good for pimples. Their formulae are totally different and have almost no reaction toward the acne bacteria.
  • Look for fluoride, if the paste contains it DO NOT buy it. Also, check for the ingredients your skin is allergic too – avoid them.

Is Toothpaste Good For Pimples On Your Skin – Test It:

Just like any new product, before applying on the face we will suggest you do a patch test. Mostly we do patch tests on the inner elbow or back of your hand, to check for allergies and reactions. If you do not experience any burning sensation, itching, rash or redness you are safe to use it on acne. If you do notice any of these, even faintly, don’t go further.

Some Easy DIY Toothpaste Pimple Remedy:

Now that we have established your skin is toothpaste friendly you can apply it by itself or by diluting it with other natural skin care agents.

1. Toothpaste

Wash your hands and face, and free your pores from germs and infections. If you have an anti-acne face wash, use that. Pat dry with a clean towel. Squeeze a pearl sized toothpaste to your index finger and apply it directly to your skin. Leave it on for a couple of hours and for better results use it overnight. Rinse off with running water, pat dry and apply an oil-free moisturiser.

2. Toothpaste And Cinnamon Application

Mix one teaspoon of cinnamon powder with 2 teaspoons of your anti-acne toothpaste. Blend the two into an even spread. This can be applied directly on the pimple affected area. We won’t advise to keep it on for more than 10 minutes. Wash your face with cold water, and pat dry.

3. Toothpaste And Baking Soda Mixture

Mix one teaspoon of baking soda, with half teaspoon of toothpaste. Add two teaspoons of water and beat it to a smooth paste. Spread it evenly on the pimple effected area. Leave it to dry for 10 to 15 minutes and wash it off. Don’t forget the moisturizer ritual.

In most cases, the toothpaste on pimple trick shows results overnight. The maximum time it might take would be a week. This is due to the excessive drying properties of toothpaste. This is exactly why we recommend the application of a healthy dollop of moisturiser each time you apply toothpaste to you face. Again, it will not be a good idea to spread toothpaste on your face as a face pack. However, its results as an anti-acne agent is mind-blowing if you follow our instructions closely.
